Join Us at Youth Day at Our Lady of the Snows
September 3, 2010 ~ Posted by Deacon Kevin
The 2010 Youth Day Celebration at Our Lady of the Snows, Belleville, Ill will be held on Sun., Sept. 26. Last year Keysis went and had a blast.
Join us for a high-energy …gathering of young people brought together to celebrate the gifts of youth and the Catholic faith. The Eucharist is the focus of this celebration with our theme stemming from the readings of the day. Youth Day exists to inspire and evangelize youth . . . to celebrate and send them forth on their faith journey.
The event runs from 11 am to 8:30 pm. We’ll have Mass at Our Lady of the Snows. We’ll be leaving Sunday at 7 a.m. from the St. Thomas Church parking lot. We should return to Decatur around 11 p.m. on Sunday night. Bring snacks and a lunch. Dinner provided.
Please respond to the Event Invite on Facebook, or let Deacon Kevin know you will attend!
Download a permission slip from this web site: http://www.keysis.net/Permission_Slip.pdf
The $15 fee per person includes speakers, bands, and dinner. For a schedule of the day’s events, check out: http://www.snowsyouthministry.org/YouthDay.aspx
We will need parent drivers. Can you help?
For Keysis Parents: Theology of the Body, Sept.19
September 3, 2010 ~ Posted by Deacon Kevin
The Gospel story of Martha and Mary is well known. Mary is sitting and listening to Jesus and ‘not doing anything’ to help. Martha, on the other hand, is busy doing all of the work. But, according to Jesus, she is not busy with what is important.
Each week at Keysis, we try to set time aside for the teens so they can hear and learn about “what is important.”
As we put together the topics we’ll cover at Keysis this fall, the team asks that you join us for a parent introduction to something the church calls “Theology of the Body.” Now this may sound complicated and intimidating, but it’s really not. In fact, it comes from a series of simple daily talks given by Pope John Paul II about how we can understand the mystery and beauty of what God wants to tell us about our bodies.
As parents, we need to hear about this — and I ask you to please put this in your calendar right away and join us.
Ray and Kelly Ramirez, parents of two Keysis teens, will offer parents an introduction to the Theology of the Body on Sunday, September 19 from 7 – 8:30 p.m. in Angela Hall at St.Thomas. The Keysis teens will have their regular meeting at the same time, however the Theology of the Body topic will be presented to them at a later date after we receive your input.
Ray and Kelly are certified as presenters by the Theology of the Body Institute. The presentation is for parents, and any friends you would like to invite. Following the presentation, there will be time for questions & answers. I hope to see you there! In the Peace of Christ, Deacon Kevin
Keysis will Participate in Corpus Christi Procession
May 13, 2010 ~ Posted by Deacon Kevin
St. Mary’s Hospital invites us to participate in the second Feast of Corpus Christi procession on Sunday, June 6, from 3-5 pm. This is a wonderful opportunity for Catholics from more than 22 parishes in Decatur and the surrounding area to gather together to pray, to honor Jesus in the Eucharist, and to celebrate our common faith.
We will begin at 3 pm at St. Patrick Church with adoration, and then Fr. Jeff Grant will lead the procession from the church to Central Park where we will have Solemn Benediction.
Following Benediction refreshments will be served. Please join us for this special celebration of that which is core to our faith.
Keysis has been asked to carry the canopy that is held over the Blessed Sacrament during the Corpus Christi procession. We’ll need four Keysis members to carry the canopy. If additional members would like to help with this honor, then canopy bearers can switch off during the procession. If you are interested, please send Deacon Kevin an email as soon as possible so we can let St. Mary’s Hospital staff know who is willing to serve.
Keysis will attend the Liturgy at 3 pm at St. Patrick Church and walk in the procession to Central Park.
Sundaes on Sunday Fundraiser
April 25, 2010 ~ Posted by Deacon Kevin

Keysis helped out today at the Holy Family School Spaghetti Dinner. We had a lot of fun helping Holy Family at the dinner and promoting Keysis to the Catholic community! We cleaned tables and served wherever we were needed. In addition, as a fundraiser for Keysis, we ran an ice cream sundae bar.
