This Week in Keysis Youth Ministry – Jan. 25
January 26, 2011

Hanging out after our visit to McKinley Court: We had a great time during our visit to McKinley Court Care Centre on Martin Luther King Day. We were greeted by a room full of grandmas and grandpas — so cool! Afterward we we hung out at McDonald’s to tell our stories. Hey we’re planning to visit our new friends again next month on President’s Day, Feb. 21. Why don’t you join us!

Under the Influence – Keysis Life Night
Drugs and alcohol continue to be a major issue in our culture. Drugs and alcohol affect everyone. This Life Night will help us understand how using drugs and alcohol hinders their true freedom found in Christ. We’ll break open the Church’s teaching on drugs and alcohol and how it relates to our lives and people close to us. St. Thomas Church, Angela Hall, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Hope to see you soon!
Spring Keysis Retreat: “Celebrate You, Celebrate Me”
January 11, 2011
Plan now to attend “Celebrate You, Celebrate Me”, the Spring Keysis Retreat on the weekend of March 26-27 April 2-3 at Anthony Acres Resort on Lake Sara in Effingham, IL. The retreat theme will help us evaluate our relationships with ourselves, friends, family, our community, and how our relationship with God touches and enhances all these other relationships. It will be a great chance to strengthen and build friendships.
We will be leaving St. Thomas at 7 a.m. on Saturday, March 26 and returning around 6 p.m on Sunday. The retreat will culminate with Mass before we pick up and head back to Decatur. The weekend will probably cost each Keysis member between $35-$50. The exact fee will be determined very soon.
Please prayerfully consider this opportunity to grow in your faith and please invite a friend. If you want to go — and we hope you will — please respond to the Facebook invite and you’ll receive more information regarding what you need to bring, fee for food and accommodations, etc. Or just let Deacon Kevin or one of the Core Team know you’d like to go on the retreat.
“Catholics Love Sex” – Keysis Life Night, Jan. 9
January 6, 2011
It’s true! Catholics Love Sex. How should we understand God’s plan for sexuality and the need for chastity in our thoughts, words and actions? During this Keysis Life Night we’ll talk about how the virtues of modesty and chastity are related to each other. How can we learn to be chaste and modest in all our relationships and live with purity of heart? And you won’t want to miss the “Battle of the Sexes” competition!
Join us this Sunday, January 9, at Keysis Life Night for a sharing of food, fun, friendship, and faith. If you’ve been busy and haven’t visited Keysis in a while, we’ve missed you and we’d love to see you! Bring a friend. Meal starts at 6:30 p.m. Keysis runs from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at St. Thomas Church, Angela Hall.
Big Feet – Keysis Life Night on Dec. 19
December 13, 2010
Get your feet walking on down to Keysis on Sunday, Dec. 19 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. (at St. Thomas).
All too often we are willing to do works of charity but not work for justice, or if we are standing up against injustice, we forget to serve Christ in our brothers and sisters. The truth is that we cannot have charity without justice nor justice without charity.
These are the “two feet” of social justice and both are necessary in the Christian life. This night will also help us experience the power of God’s mercy so that they can have mercy on others.
White Elephant Gift Exchange – Keysis Life Night on Dec. 12
December 8, 2010
For most of us, if we’re honest, Christmas is about the presents. As a reminder that Christmas is the season of giving, the Keysis Life Night on Sunday, December 12 combines a service project with an opportunity for us to participate in a crazy gift exchange. Join us for this Keysis Meal and Meeting from 6:30-8:30 p.m. (St. Thomas), and bring a friend.
You’ll need to come prepared for these two things:
1. St. Nicholas Family Donation: Keysis is collecting financial donations to provide Christmas presents for two local families in great need. Each family has two children. We’ll start shopping for them on the 14th. Bring your donation to the Keysis meeting. Make checks payable to “Keysis Decatur” and mark “St. Nicholas Family” in the memo.
2. White Elephant Gift Exchange: A fun part of the evening will be a gift exchange of weird, wacky, and tacky gifts. Buy something inexpensive if you want, but it’s not necessary to purchase something. Look around your room for a weird gift that you’d like to give away to a Keysis member. (Just make sure the gift is appropriate.) We’ll explain
the exchange process and rules on Sunday night. This is bound to be hilarious. Don’t miss this night.
Then, on Tuesday, Dec. 14, we’ll start our St. Nick shopping for our two families in great need; 6-8p.m. , Locations: to be determined on the 12th at the Keysis meeting (check the Keysis Facebook page and your email for updates.)
